15 Professors from School of Foreign Languages of PKU Awarded Senior Translators by TAC

Peking University, Beijing, Dec. 3rd, 2009: Recently, 44 senior literary translators were commended by TAC (Translators Association of China). Among them, 15 professors from School of Foreign Languages of PKU won the title of "Senior Translators" due to their profound learning, exquisite language skills and exemplary styles.

All recipients of this distinguished award are over 70 years old. These certificates were conferred by TAC in November, 2009 for their outstanding achievements in this field for a time . They are Professor Gong Renfang, Professor Li Mingbin, Professor Li Shuzhen from Department of Russian Language; Professor Sun Kunrong, Associate Professor An Shuzhi, Professor Zhang Rongchang, Professor Zhao Dengrong from Department of German Language; Professor Wei Xusheng from Department of Korean Language and Culture; Professor Zhang Baosheng from South Asian Studies; Professor Fu Chengjie, Professor Kong Yuanzhi, Professor Yao Bingyan, Professor Li Mou from Department of South-Eastern Asian Studies; Professor Zhong Jikun from Department of Arabic; Professor Zhao Deming from Department of Spanish and Portuguese.

In the past, a group of professors from School of Foreign Languages of Peking University had been awarded with this title by TAC. They are Professor Wei Zhen (pen name: Wei Huangnu), Professor Zhang Youfu (pen name: Zhang Yong and Li Hai), Professor Gu Yunpu, Zang Zhonglun from Department of Russian Language; Professor Gui Yufang, Professor Cai Hongbin from Department of French; Professor Jin Dinghan, Professor Liu Anwu, Professor Zhang Hongnian, Professor Liang Liji from Department of Oriental Languages and Literatures; Professor Fan Dacan, Professor Zhang Yushu, Associate Professor Li Shu from Department of German; Professor Shen Shiyan from Department of Spanish and Professor Taojie from Department of English.

Certificates

The commending of these senior translators shows keen attention from the country and the society to translators and translation. It is also a chance to recognize the learning of the translators and eulogize their prominent contributions.
