PKU Professor Wu Xihong Awarded 2009 Okawa Foundation Research Grant

Peking University, Beijing, March 31, 2010: Recently, the Japanese Okawa Foundation for Information and Telecommunication awarded Wu Xihong, a professor at Peking University's School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, the 2009 Okawa Foundation Research Grant. Professor Wu is the fourth professor from PKU to be honored with this grant.


The Okawa Foundation for Information and Telecommunication was established in 1986. The Foundation's research grant is designed to honor outstanding individuals within institutions of higher education and research organizations in the fields of telecommunication and information. These fields include the fundamental and application research of the internet, computer systems, artificial intelligence, biological information sciences and many others. At first, this Grant was only awarded to Japanese scientists, but as of 2006, the Okawa Foundation began to also recognize those from China, the United States and South Korea.


In the past three years, Professor Wang Hanpin, Deputy Director of Software Engineering Institute of PKU, Professor Dai Yafei, Deputy Director of PKU Institute of Network Computing and Information Systems, and Professor Jiao Bingli, Deputy Director of PKU Research Institute of Communication Technology were awarded this Grant.
