At 9:55 a.m., November 30th, 2009, flight CA902 of Air China from Stockholm to Beijing slowly was taxiing to the air bridge. Two jets of water from the fire engines formed a brilliant gate over the plane; rapturous applause burst from the long-awaited people. Flight carrying the 60 millionth passengers in 2009 successfully arrived at the Capital Airport.
With the arrival of this flight, Capital Airport became the 1st largest airport in Asia and the 4th largest in the world. This marked a great step forward for the Capital Airport to become a major international hub airport, and set a new record of annual passenger throughput for Capital Airport or even all the airports in China.
This record may then be broken at the end of this year, said an official of the Capital Airport. It was estimated that in 2009 the airport s annual passenger throughput would exceed 65 million people, ranking the 3rd or even 2nd in the world, while passenger throughput in 2010 was expected to reach 75 million.
