In order to provide accommodations for homeless victims of the Sichuan earthquake, Chaoda Group purchased 1,000 tents from Taiwan, at a total cost of about RMB2 million. The company rushed the tents to Sichuan on June 2, a day after they were received.
In Wenchuan District, nearly the entire population is now living in tents as temporary homes. According to the Command Center for Anti-Earthquake and Disaster Relief, Wenchuan and other earthquake districts have a shortfall of at least 1 million tents. Chaoda moved quickly in response to the information and contacted a tent manufacturer in Taiwan and signed a rush order for 1,000 tents.
The 1,000 tents will provide accommodation for around 10,000 people. As of the end of 30 May, Chaoda Group and its staff had donated RMB22 million to disaster relief in Sichuan, including cash, goods and materials.
