BOE Technology Group Co. Ltd. (BOE, 000725.SZ), the Beijing-based LCD panel manufacturer, announced on March 15 plans to purchase assets from Taiwan JEAN Co. Ltd. (JEAN), a leading OEM/ODM manufacturer of visual display products, for RMB 290 million.
The package includes JEAN s computer monitors and TV businesses, as well as a 100% stake in K-Tronics (Suzhou) Technology Co. Ltd. (K-Tronics), a subsidiary fully-owned by JEAN.
The purchase is a win-win strategy for both sides, which is not only a breakthrough for BOE in the LCD industry, but also allows for full use of JEAN s upstream resources in TFT-LCD panels. BOE hopes to gain ground on rivals such as Taiwan Tatung Group (Tatung), a conglomerate that owns JEAN as well as other subsidiaries of electronic, optical and chemical key spare parts, through the deal.
