On December 7 2009, China's National Development and Reform Commission(NDRC) has granted the approval on Yantai Wanhua Polyurethanes Co.,Ltd(Yantai Wanhua)'s plan to remove methylene diphenyl diisocyanate(MDI) plant to Lingang Industry Park of Yantai Economic Development Zone, Shandong Province in China and build an integrated isocyanate project at the same place.
Yantai Wanhua would invest a total of yuan(CNY)13.2bn $1.93bn to build the new integrated isocyanate plants along with other public utilities. The project covers an area of 215.727 hectares.
The new integrated isocyanate project includes:
600,000 tonne/year MDI facility
300,000 tonne/year toluene diisocyanate(TDI) facility
300,000 tonne/year caustic soda facility
240,000 tonne/year formaldehyde facility
540,000 tonne/year nitric acid facility
180,000 tonne/year synthetic ammonia facility
480,000 tonne/year nitrobenzene facility
360,000 tonne/year aniline facility
480,000 tonne/year hydrogen chloride oxidation to produce chlorine facility
152,000 cubic meters/hour gasification facility and 70,000 standard cubic meters/hour air separation facility.
Yantai Wanhua decided to build these plants at the new production site in order to strengthen its competitive ability. Yantai Wanhua s existing 200,000 tonne/year MDI plant at Yantai Zhifu Zone will be closed once the new MDI plant starts up.
