Sino-Argentine astronomical cooperation making new progress

According to the observational reports from the October 2007 to the September 2008 by the satellite laser ranging (SLR) stations in the world, the Sino-Argentine SLR system ranks the second worldwide in the volume of observing satellites while the first in observing high orbit satellites.
What's more, the Sino-Argentine SLR system overruns for the first time the Australia's 76cm-diameter SLR in one of the measuring indices. Two of the other results ranks the third and two the second. It's believed that this SLR's observational capacity as a whole ascended the top three in the world and holds on the first place compared with those SLRs in lack of daytime ranging ability.
With the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology and CAS, a 60cm-diameter high repetition rate SLR jointly developed by the National Astronomical Observatories at CAS and the Chinese Academy of Surveying and Mapping was fixed in 2005 in the observatory of the San Juan University in Argentina. Then an SLR station was cooperatively established and in 2006 the system commenced its operation.
The SLR system is capable of observing satellites in the distance ranging from 300km to 20000km. And due to the fine weather in San Juan, there comes out 300 clear nights on average for the SLR astronomical observation. And through the hard work of the S&T co-workers from the two countries, the system soon progressed into its full play, attracting attention from peers home and abroad.
