On the afternoon of October 31, despite the rain outside, bustling noises were heard everywhere in the workshop of the 220-ton-per-hour boiler's flue gas desulfurization mechanism of the Thermoelectricity Center. In one of the meter rooms, four or five technical personnel are debugging on the computer while closely watching the flicking digitals on the screen.
Beside the high desulfurization tower, operators are constantly checking the running conditions of pumps and meters. All this is what one sees during the trial running of the boiler's desulfurization mechanism. By 15 p.m., the trial run was declared a one-shot success.
The desulfurization project, one of Sinopec's model projects, was under joint development of YCF and Sinopec Ningbo Engineering Company Limited, with the total investment of RMB16 million. This project, initiated on December 28, 2006, applies the method of magnesia desulfurization, the first set of Sinopec adopting the technology.
The equipment's desulfurization capability can reach up to 96%, which has played an important role in the Thermoelectricity Center's reduction of sulfur dioxide emission and satisfactory fulfillment of environmental protection. To ensure a smooth project construction, the directors and technical personnel from the Organization & Planning Construction Department and the Thermoelectricity Center and other departments and units participated in the whole process of the project's management and provided a tight quality control.
It is learnt that the desulfurization mechanism has entered the trial run phase, seeing satisfactory desulfurization results and low energy consumption. Therefore, the project's requirements concerning design as well as energy saving and emission reduction have been preliminarily met.
