On October 16th, SIFT held a symposium on internationalization of higher education: opportunities and challenges. Sun Haiming, SIFT President, Yang Weiren, department head of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, presidents of overseas partner universities and other guests who were here to attend the 50th anniversary celebration were present at the symposium. Deans of SIFT schools and representatives of teachers and students were also present. The symposium was chaired by vice president Xu Xiaowei.
President Sun Haiming made a keynote speech on SIFT internationalized way of running the university. He reviewed SIFT s international exchanges since mid-1990s, summarized the achievements in construction of teachers troop, students exchange, international cooperation and research, and looked into futures of SIFT internationalized way of operation.
Yang Weiren, head of International Exchange Office in Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, addressed on the current situation and developing prospect of higher education internationalization in Shanghai.
Ph.D. Linda Hanson, president of American Hallym University, Ph.D. Scott McAlpine, president of Canadian Douglas College, Ms Murphy, vice-president of the University of Central Lancashire, professor On Kit Tam, deputy vice-president of RMIT University, Australia, Zhang Zhichao, professor of Durham University, professor Helmut Schwaegemann, director of convention and exhibition cooperation project from Osnabruck University of Applied Science, and professor Dusan Mramor, dean of Economics School of Slovenian Ljubljana University, respectively introduced and explained the internationalized education of their university and country.
