On the morning of Jan. 15, HU Jintao, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, inspected the construction site of China Pavilion and World Expo Park in Shanghai, and received the workers including academician HE Jingtang, dean of the School of Architecture, SCUT.
After an inspection on Puxi district, Hu paid a visit to China Pavilion, the "Oriental Crown", in Pudong district. At the entrance hall, Hu greeted each worker while shaking hands with them. When meeting HE Jingtang, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and general designer of China Pavilion, Hu said happily: "The pavilion is totally Chinese.
" Academician He replied with excitement: "China Pavilion integrates Chinese ancient construction rules with modern architecture design concepts, and embodies Chinese wisdom in city development, conveying to the world the message that the country is going all-out for scientific development and a harmonious society.
"
In his improvised speech, Hu appreciated the constructers' hard work and extensive efforts. He called on all the people to pool their strength to ensure the smooth construction and the success of Shanghai World Expo.
