From May 9th to 10th, the 4th International Conference of Institutes & Libraries for Chinese Overseas Studies co-hosted by Jinan University and Ohio University was held in Jinan University. Ms. Wang Xiaoping, Director of Department of Policies and Regulations, Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, Prof. Hu Jun, President of Jinan University, Mr. Hwa-wei Li, Honorary Curator of Ohio University Library, Mr. Leo,Suryadinata President of International Society for the Studies of Chinese Overseas, Mr. Liu Zepeng, members of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC, Dean of Academy of Overseas Chinese Studies of JNU attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Vice-president Ji Zong'an of JNU.

The theme of this meeting is: Interaction and innovation: a Multi-Perspective Study of Overseas Chinese. The meeting provides a great platform to showcase new issues and achievements of current studies of Overseas Chinese through exchange and interaction between the participants, trying to build up a cross-regional, inter-disciplinary, multi-functional bridge among experts, scholars, librarians and archive management personnel on Overseas Chinese studies.
Mr. Wang Gungwu, Professor Emeritus of National University of Singapore, Chairman of East Asian Institute, Mr. Ching-hwang Yen, Chair Professor of School of History and Politics, University of Adelaide, delivered speeches respectively, namely Talks on New and Old Immigrants, from Perspective of History of Nationalities and Interaction between Chinese and Western Cultures, Personnel Experience of an Overseas Chinese Scholar and Social Activist .

Takeshi Harnashita,Honorary Professor of Tokyo University, Director of Asia-pacific Research Institute of Sun Yet-sen University, Leonard BLUSS , Professor of School of History of Leiden University, Liu Hong, Chair Professor on Eastern Asian Studies from Manchester University, U.K, Eleanor Yuen, Curator of Asian Library in UBC, Zhang Guoxiong, Professor from Overseas Chinese Town Research Center of Wu Yi University, Ang-See Teresita, Secretary-general of the ISSCO, Ge Jianxiong, Head Librarian and professor of Historical Geography Research Center of Fudan University, Wang Ling-Chi, Professor of Ethnic Studies Department, UC Berkeley, gave keynote speeches on the conference.

Thirty two panel sessions were held during the meeting on 12 sub-topics including immigrants community and cultural adjustment, social conflicts and social mobility, research on new immigrants, overseas Chinese business culture, overseas Chinese network, marriage, family and society, overseas Chinese culture and arts, religion and folk beliefs, overseas Chinese town and its connections with abroad, new history materials and overseas Chinese studies, pedigree and overseas Chinese studies, internet resources and database construction.
On the closing ceremony held on May 10, Mr. Wu Xingci, Vice Chairman of Guangdong Overseas Chinese Academy, Zheng Liren, Curator of Wason Collection on East Asia of Cornell University, Dr. Danial Shao, Special Consultant of the Dr. Shao Youbao Overseas Chinese Documentation and Research Center, Ohio University, gave congratulations on the success of the conference. Dr. Zhang Yinglong from Academy of Overseas Chinese Studies gave a conclusion speech on behalf of the Organizing Committee. The ceremony was held by Vice President Lin Rupeng of JNU.
More than 200 scholars from over 20 countries and regions attended the meeting and submitted more than 230 papers.
