Professor Dietrich Soyez visiting JNU
On June 2nd , 2009, Professor Dietrich Soyez, former Head of Geography Department of Cologne University, Germany, visited the Institute of Hong Kong, Macao & SEZ Economy Research of JNU.
Professor Soyez is currently the vice chairman of International Geography Union IGU , and he used to be the Chairman of the National Geographic Commission of Germany in IGU and the head of Geography Department in Cologne University. During his stay in Jinan University, Prof. Soyez was warmly received by Professor Chen En, Director of the Institute, Associate Professor Zhong Yun, Associate Professor Chen An-Ping, Dr. Wang Peng and Li Yuan-Yuan.
At the meeting, Professor Soyez and Professor Chen En exchanged the preliminary idea on promoting some cooperative programs with relevant universities in Germany and discussed his lecture topics for next semester. In addition, Professor Soyez introduced German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to the Institute and expressed his pleasure in recommending teachers and postgraduate students of the Institute to apply for scholarship of studying in Germany via DAAD.
Professor Soyez s visit opened up a new way to push the international cooperation between German Higher Institutions and Jinan University.
