Every season since 2006 Celine revisits Opanka shoes with a fresh take – be i flats, boots or pumps. Inspired by the first sandals worn by the original inhabitants of Central Europe, Opanka by Celine is both chic and ultra contemporary. This season features multicolored straps, vertiginous
heels and the instantly-recognizable sole, propelling Opanka to the top of the summer trend list. What makes Opanka unique is the one-piece leather soles that are an integral part of the shoe. Made of smooth, tanned cowhide, the soles are the fruit of five distinct production steps: soaking, drying, hot forming, pressure shaping and then cutting. Finally the soles are carefully hand-painted, just as in the past.
Once the sole is ready the shoe can be assembled. Each one can have up to 35 different pieces of leather for the exterior, plus a dozen more for the lining.
It takes three weeks and work by dozens of artisans from the shaping of the of the Opanka sole to shipping to Celine boutiques around the world. The result is handmade shoes with an exquisite sole unlike any other.
