All Pakistan Textile Mills Association has regretted that although it has not commented on the working of PTA manufacturers, they are continuously criticizing entire textile industry of Pakistan.
APTMA has stated that the government must keep its promises of no import duty on raw materials to an export industry that is employing four million workers and providing 65% of country’s exports.
It is unfortunate that the PTA manufacturers are issuing false statements but are also spoiling working relationship between textile industry and other polyester fibre manufacturers.
APTMA has reiterated several times that it wishes to maintain a healthy customer-manufacturer relationship with the PSF manufacturers.
APTMA has said that Pakistan Textile Industry must be allowed to retain Zero duty import option as local PSF manufacturers do not allow long term booking while long term commitments can be obtained in international market, with firm price commitments. In addition, industry can avail delayed payment and dollar borrowing facility when importing polyester fibre.
APTMA is in favour of government providing any financial support to polyester chain as it has been providing for the last ten years but it should not come at the cost of textile industry.
Duty free import of raw materials is the basic right of the export industry. DTRE scheme is not workable in textile chain and any import duty on PSF will not be acceptable to textile industry. APTMA cannot execute its vision of doubling exports in five years, if fundamental trade principles are violated.
