Australia: National Wool Declaration to identify growers mulesing sheep

The battle against mulesing has been fanned for quite sometime now and Australia has finally come to terms with the situation bringing up a new declaration for wool growers.
Mr Mark Grave, Chief Executive Officer of Australian Wool Exchange Ltd told Fibre2fashion, “This new National Wool Declaration system is voluntary and provides wool growers with the opportunity of accurately identifying their wool and providing buyers with information related to mulesing status and Dark and Medullated Fibre risk.”
Mr Grave also affirmed that the new declaration scheme will be formalized in July but is already being utilized by woolgrowers and wool buyers.
Farmers will now have to sign this mulesing declaration to accompany every bale of wool sold at auction forcing them to state whether they've mulesed sheep in the past, and whether they plan to keep mulesing.
The declaration will also allow growers to disclose if they use pain relief measures when mulesing sheep.
