GISELE BUNDCHEN has joined the fight to protect the Amazons Xingu River from deforestation and pollution. The Brazilian supermodel has agreed to endorse Y Ikatu Xingu ("Clean and Good Xingu Water"): a campaign launched by the Socioenvironmental Institute to protect the endangered waters of the river in the southern Amazon. According to the Kaxi Amazon News Agency, she will "tell the world that the Amazons waters are in danger". Approximately 1,700 miles long, the Xingu River, which has tributaries in 35 cities and towns, is at threat from ranchers and loggers. (May 30 2006, AM)
