Government is not going to impose duties on imported Chinese textiles putting away the demand raised by Indonesian Textiles Association (API) on grounds that local industry was being harmed.
Industry Minister Fahmi Idris Friday stated that no significant increase in Chinese textile imports was noted despite official figures showing atleast 40 percent increase on annual basis, for the last three years.
API had earlier argued that textile imports rose to US $45.3 million in the first nine months last year, against $19.5 million recorded in 2004.
API thus demanded tightening of Chinese imports by imposing duites and conducting check on shipments from that country.
