US submit negotiation text for textile label regulation to WTO

Write: Ashby [2011-05-20]

On May.15,2006, US submit negotiation text to WTO for reducing the non-tariff wall for textile, fashion, footwear and travel product. US think that the text can help to reduce the difference in label of relevant industry, save the cost and time; the supervising institution can also require to enclose some data to this category product to ensure customers rights. The text put forward follow suggestions:

WTO member can require to get the information in permanent label, which include (1) producing area, fiber content, tend indication and security message,(2)producing area (about footwear and travel products).

WTO member can require manufactures to offer additional data.

WTO member also can require manufactures to attach impermanent label on product or package and offer additional sound data.

During transition period, WTO member should consider manufacturers demand on elastic disposal and allow coexistence of new & old label.
