AUSTRIA: Lenzing to start carbon fibre production

A joint venture is in the offing between Lenzing GMbH , SGL and Kelheim to produce primary materials for carbon fibres. The factory will be located in Germany at Kelheim property. The deal is not finalised yet.

Sources said Lenzing Group is having expansion plans and carbon fibres production is having tremendous growth potential in the future.A joint venture is also planned for poduction of cotton fibres which still under negotiations. Thomas Fahmemann , Lenzing Chairman said the venture will be helpful for its current plastic business.

Present production of carbon fibre is unable to meet the demand. There are very few who produce high quality Carbon fibre. We will bridge this gap said Mr. Fahnemann.

While GmbH will start production this year both GmbH and Lenzing fibres and Kelheim will be benefitted from the expertise of SGL in carbon fibre production.

The Carbon Fibre will be captured by aerospace and automotive applications. Lensing plastics GmbH will invest 50 million Euros in the first phase.
