Vietnam intends to achieve the goal of shoes and leathers exports: shoes export reaching 7.2 billion pairs, bags export reaching 80.7 million and leathers export reaching 80 million sqft (1sqft=0.3048 square meters). At present, Vietnamese throughput of shoes and leathers is only 70-75% of the design scale; they need to further increase investment and improve productivity.
It is reported that 2006 Vietnamese shoes and leathers export sum reaching 35.9 billion U.S.D., including the export to E.U. accounted for 60% of total export. Today the number of Vietnamese shoes and leathers exports to the EU is listed second in the world only after China.
According to the report, although E.U. started to impose 10% antidumping tax of upper leather shoes on Oct.6th 2006, other kinds of shoes export were not affected. Vietnam's footwear manufacturers should continue to increase exports and to avoid producing the products which may be imposed antidumping tax.
