Fashion shows are gradually turning into business events from its earlier concept of showcasing modern fashion statements of eminent fashion designers.
Indian corporate turning to designers to focus on aspect of doing business with them, has caused Fashion weeks in country to evolve, said Asha Baxi dean-academics, National Institute of Fashion Technology.
"These weeks are doing a good job and would soon grow into more a professional event, bringing together exclusive luxury products, high fashion and business opportunities," she added.
"Fashion shows serve a multi-pronged purpose - to create a buzz, advertise, promote a brand and provide an opportunity for companies to conduct business, besides lending the much needed element of glamour," she said.
Fashion weeks have also become an opportunity for designers to interact with a number of international buyers under one roof an opportunity which otherwise they may not get, she said.
Baxi further added that Indian crafts and embroidery sector also get much needed global attention.
