Though way behind world’s top customers, Japanese, Indians are being ranked as one of the rapidly growing biggest spenders.
In 2006 8.3 million Indians traveled abroad, either for business or for leisure, each on an average spending over US $900.
In all, Indians made purchases worth $7.5 billion, especially on fashion accessories, fragrances, alcohol and other such merchandise.
Kolkatans are top, with each on an average spending around $1000, followed by Mumbaikars at $917.
Delhittes seem to be most reluctant consumers, spending way below average at $768.
Though, confectionery ranks as No 1 purchase, perfumes come in second. When it comes to most bought item by men, fragrances take the crown.
Meanwhile, last year India attracted an investment of over $11.1 billion from international companies.
