Ministry of commerce is all set to begin initial stages of discussions with the stakeholders on April 26 for New Trade Policy 2007-08.
This Policy will focus on export industry and implement steps to cut down production as well as trade cost. It will also aim to improve competitiveness of the sector by enhancing capacity and develop promotion and marketing strategies.
The Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), All Pakistan Textile Mills Association and all other exporters associations are expected to attend and forward their recommendations on proposed trade policy.
Export industries, especially the textiles have been facing major challenges in the global market for nearly a year. Hike in electricity, gas and tariff rates in addition to the competitive pressures from countries like India, Bangladesh and China has been troubling the industry tremendously.
Textile players are hoping that this new policy might boost their business and finally offer some relief.
