Turkey : Home textile likely to grow three-folds - Tüzmen

Kürsad Tüzmen, the Foreign Trade Minister attended EVTEKS 2007, the Istanbul Home Textile Fair at the CNR Expo exhibition center, yesterday, along with the visiting African Ministers, in the country for second Turkey-Africa Trade Bridge Summit.
The Minister said that country’s textile market was facing danger with the entry of low-priced Chinese products in international markets. But local manufacturers overcome the situation and textile exports and apparel export increased by 24 and 16 percent respectively in the first quarter of 2007 as compared to the same period of 2006.
Tuzmen remarked that Turkey enjoys a major hold in the home textile sector in global market and showed an impressive export growth reaching $2.5 billion in overseas sales.
The Foreign Minister also stated the fact that Turkey has its own textile and apparel brands which have touched $20 billion export volume in total and the Government plans to reach the $30 billion level in a few years. The home textile industry will get a boost and increase by three-folds in next few years.
