India : Govt seeks Swiss skills to make specialized army clothes

Government is planning to approach Swiss enterprises to establish facility that will manufacture sleeping bags and jackets for soldiers posted in harsh weather terrains.
This will be an attempt to improve conditions for army troops in high altitude regions like Saichen.
Defence Production Secretary, K P Singh, recently, met with the army officials, applauded them and also discussed their requirements for the winter season.
This move will help to enhance supply of equipments to troops in Sikkim, Kargil, Drass and such higher regions that suffer cruel winter months.
Sources say that the Administrations will adopt expertise from Swiss producers and also set up duck farms to manufacture feather-filled sleeping bags.
Director General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) had several times rejected jackets, gloves, sleeping bags and other products that were imported from Switzerland, finding their quaility unsatisfactory.
Indian Governemnt has now decided to work with the Swiss companies so as to minimize and finally, avoid these flaws.
