Sri Lankan Daya Group has decided to develop an apparel project in Danang, Vietnam, scheduled to be operational by July, 2007.
Company’s Director Merchandising, Ranjith, informed Fibre2fashion, that the joint venture will be a manufacturing facility for women’s wear and will have an investment of around US $1.5 million.
Sources say that Daya executed this move to take advantage of low costs and cheap labor in Vietnam. Another advantage will be that since accession to WTO, Vietnam’s textile and garments enjoy quota-free access to most major markets.
Ranjith also confirmed, “Yes, factory in Galle (Samosns) is already in action with Next. From spring/summer 2008 we will further conduct our regular customers’ ladies garment business from here.”
