An English book on Chinese history and culture has recently arrived on the shelf, providing those interested in Chinese civilization with a panoramic view of the 5,000-year-old country.

Published by the Foreign Languages Press, the book China: Images of a Civilization, gives a brief and systematic introduction to Chinese civilization, with the aim of helping foreigners understand more about China.

With ample explanatory notes and a wide range of rare color photographs, the book unfolds the extraordinary richness and variety of Chinese culture, thus giving one the feeling of reliving those historical times as well as more recent periods.

As more and more people are becoming interested in China because of its rapid economic growth, the book is useful for them to make better sense of contemporary China while knowing the salient features of its long history and diverse cultures, according to the publishing house.

Aside from its informative content, another distinctive aspect of the book is a timeline of other histories at the bottom of each page. This is with a view to facilitate the reader to compare and relate simultaneously the events that occurred in Chinese history with that in the history of other countries.
