Bangladeshi President Zillur Rahman said Tuesday the Gitanjali publication, collection of poems by Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore, will inspire the Bengali nation afresh, private news agency UNB reported.
The president made the remarks on occasion of the 100th anniversary of Gitangali publication to be held on Dec. 23.
Zillur said the poet's time-tested collections Gitangali had brought the honor of winning Nobel Prize for Tagore, which was the first among the Asians.
The president said philosopher poet Tagore through his deep realization and creative writings has enriched the Bengali language and the people and also placed Bengali literature in the world stage with honor.
"The entire Bengali nation is very respectful to the poet and also proud of him," he said.
Tagore was born in Calcutta of India in 1861 and spent many years in Dhaka, the now capital of Bangladesh. He won Nobel Literature Prize in 1913 with Gitangali which was written in Bengali.
