Laoxiang Peak, or the Peak of the Old Elephant, is situated near Xiaoyuzi village of the DahuashanTownship in the Pinggu District, 80 kilometers from Beijing-proper. The scenic spot lies in a vast gorge with rich vegetation and lush trees. To the north, a peak shaped like a huge elephant stands in the valley with its head facing west. About 52 meters high and 82 meters long, the old elephant appears to be hanging its head and drinking water with its nose.
Laoxiang Peak Scenic Spot covers an area of more than 40 km . Over 30 sites dot the green mountain, including XiangluCave, Dice Fossa, ShicuiLake, and the Ancient Rampart. Large orchards and wild chrysanthemums growing in the hillside also add charm to the valley. The whole area is rich with the original beauty of nature, without a trace of artificiality.
