The third annual Green Design Festival opened in Syntagma Square in the center of Athens on Friday with the aim to promote an environment-friendly urban lifestyle.
The open-air event, which runs till Oct. 10 under the auspices of the City of Athens and the Greek Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change, invites Greek citizens and foreign visitors to take a look at experts' suggestions regarding everyday practices that protect the environment.
More than 150 architects and representatives from all design- related fields took part in the festival, presenting delicate constructions and recyclable clothes, and calling on citizens to rethink about attitudes that harm nature.
At Syntagma Square in front of the Greek parliament building now stands an Ecomuseum, a major recyclable structure that hosts exhibitions and educational programs on green issues.
Its central stage is powered by solar energy, while the 100- seat green amphitheater hosts various happenings on the theme of climate change, models of sustainability, alternative energy sources, green economy and ecological awareness.
Next to the amphitheater children can take part in educational games, make drawings and in front of accessories made of recycled material learn useful data.
Similar architectural installations are also on display at six other spots across central Athens, inviting the public to view the city from a different angle and share more ideas on protecting the environment.
