Bullet proof clothing customized to Indian tastes

With increasing levels of terrorist threats, the demand for bullet proof clothing and armored cars is increasing in India amongst mainly the VIP’s and politicians of the country. It is just over a year since a Colombian based manufacturer of bullet proof clothing set up shop in India and it is being inundated with orders.
Discrete Inners, a Delhi based company is the exclusive distributor in India of the Colombia based, Miguel Caballero (MC), which boasts of a clientele, which include cult-figures like Mr Barrack Obama and many other well-known personalities.
Miguel Caballero has customized and Indianised the bullet proof clothing to be worn, either as a Nehru jacket, kurta or safari suits, which are the preferred clothing of politicians in India and these can set them back by Rs 200,000-300,000.
Seventeen years after Miguel Caballero opened shop; his firm has expanded to 16 countries and reportedly sold about US $6.4 million worth of bullet-resistant garments for civilian use in 2008, accounting for 40% of its revenue.
Fibre2fashion spoke exclusively to Mr Rohit Nath, Managing Director of Discrete Inners who said that, he feels that the market for these kinds of hi-tech textiles is all set to grow in India, with the kind of tension in India and its neighbourhood.
He also added by saying that, these are patented technologies and are specialty inners that can be placed inside any garment to make it bulletproof. The defense forces and VIP's are their major clientele for these products which are tailor made to fit each individual comfortably and protect them at the same time.
