Egypt has advanced to the 17th position on the US list of garment and textile exporters for the first half of 2009, according to a report sent by the Egyptian trade office in Washington to Minister of Trade and Industry Rashid Mohamed Rashid.
In the same period last year Egypt ranked 24th.
This year Egypt has outranked Jordan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Turkey, the report read.
The net value of Egypt's exports of garments and textiles to the US market in the first half of 2009 rose by three percent to 455.6 million dollars, compared with 442.3 million dollars during the same period a year ago, it said.
The increase is remarkable given the recession hitting the US which led to a 14.3 percent fall in US imports, the report added.
