Europe: EC plans anti-dumping on footwear

Write: Minako [2011-05-20]
The European Union is going to extend its anti-dumping measures against Chinese footwear imports next month but the extension to the punitive tariffs will be for two years instead of the normal five, and will exempt children's footwear and sports shoes. Imports of shoes from Vietnam will be exempted from the extension.

Back in 2006, the EU initially imposed the tariffs for two years after receiving complaints from European footwear companies based in Spain, Italy, Poland and France.

Most EU countries and major retailers do not welcome any extension of the measures, claiming that these measures are anti-competitive and counter-productive during the economic downturn.
