Mineral exploration group Tertiary Minerals has applied for a new exploration licence for fluorspar some 50km north-north west of its existing Storuman project in Sweden. The company said it was also working on additional fluorspar acquisitions, some of which are understood to be at an advanced stage.
The new licence application at Gietsjaure in the Sorsele area covers a historic boulder-find of rich fluorspar-mineralised sandstone in a geological setting very similar to that at Storuman. Tertiary is currently mid-way through a scoping study of the Stourman deposit, where a recent tonnage-grade estimate saw a near doubling of the known quantity of contained fluorspar to over three million tons.
In connection with Stourman, Tertiary has started detailed discussions with potential off-take partners in order to firm up the detail of its scoping study. The study itself is scheduled to be completed by June despite some hold ups in the metallurgical test work caused by laboratory bottlenecks.
Separately, Tertiary said it had surrendered its existing Sivakkalehto claims at Kolari in Finland and then re-applied for licences over the same area. The original claims were due to expire in October this year and the company wanted more time to carry out definition drilling and feasibility studies over an area it reckons has the potential for a commercial iron deposit.
