On February 11, a contract signing ceremony was held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse concerning the nuclear power stations with large-scale advanced pressurized water reactors and high temperature gas-cooled reactors. Nine project undertakers attended the ceremony, at which a task contract was signed between CNNC China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd. and China Institute of Atomic Energy as the major undertakers for the R&D project of reprocessing plant, and the National Energy Bureau.

Zhang Guobao, Director of the National Energy Administration said that the R&D project for large-scale advanced pressurized water reactors, high temperature gas-cooled reactors and the spent fuel reprocessing plant was the focus of technological innovation in nuclear power in China. Zhang stressed that in the spent fuel reprocessing, the R&D project was the important support for fulfilling the policy of "relying on ourselves, while encouraging SINO-foreign cooperation", and building commercial reprocessing plant, through which we must master the core technology of reprocessing plant. He urged all the undertakers to attach great importance to the project, cherish the opportunity, work hard, embrace the cooperative spirit, strengthen organizational coordination, prepare high-quality research team, and follow the plan to accomplish the task in high standards and high quality, contributing to the development of China's nuclear power technology by leaps and bounds.

Qiu Jiangang, Deputy General Manager of China National Nuclear Corporation, said at the meeting that CNNC, as the backbone of nuclear spent fuel reprocessing industrial development, and the leading implementation unit for project of reprocessing plant, would never fail its mission, and would focus on the reprocessing project with the spirit of small core and great collaboration.

The task contract signing ceremony marked the beginning of the substantive implementation stage of the reprocessing project. (Zheng Weifang)
