On Feb 27th, an engineering, procurement and construction contract for Tianwan units 5 and 6 was signed in Beijing by China Nuclear Power Engineering Co. (CNPE) and CNNC Jiangsu Nuclear Power Co. CNPE will be the project contractor. It means that the project risk control, safety and quality for project construction, saving investment, reduction of construction time are all ensured.
Tianwan NPP district was planned to construct 8 reactors. Units 1 and 2,two Russian-designed VVER-1000 reactors, constructed under a cooperation agreement between Russia and China, are already in operation and units 3 and 4 construction work is in progress. Units 5 and 6 are likely to be VVER-1200s and would make up the third phase of the plant.
