The Schaeffler Group received the 2010 Technical Cooperation Award at the 2nd Supplier Conference held by Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co., Ltd. in January. Goldwind is one of the leading manufacturers of wind power equipment in China with substantial R&D activities and strong innovative ability. In 2009, Goldwind installed wind turbines with a total capacity of 2,727 MW, becoming the world s fifth largest wind power equipment manufacturer.
As one of the leading suppliers of bearings and development partner of the whole drive train of wind turbines, the Schaeffler Group has always been committed to comprehensive R&D to provide advanced solutions to its customers. The cooperation between Schaeffler and Goldwind started with a 600 kW wind turbine, followed by wind turbines with a capacity from 750 kW up to 6.0 MW. This included close and comprehensive collaboration in the design, prototype development and volume production of all types of wind turbines. The Schaeffler Group not only supplied different types of bearings to Goldwind, but also contributed valuable bearing know-how for testing and maintenance of wind turbines.
In the future, the Schaeffler Group will continue its close cooperation with Goldwind and provide a wide range of product and system solutions based on its state-of-the-art bearing technology and manufacturing expertise , said Dr. Gou Jianhui, Managing Director and President of Schaeffler Group Industrial in Greater China. We are proud of being able to contribute to the sound development of China s wind power industry with this cooperation.
The Chinese wind power market has enjoyed tremendous growth in the last five years. By the end of 2009, the wind power capacity installed in China was the largest in the world. The capacity of wind turbines is increasing along with this development. In addition, wind turbine manufacturers are expanding their independent R&D ability and placing higher demands on bearing manufacturers with regard to the suitability of bearing designs, the joint development of products, the sharing of testing know-how, the use of condition monitoring systems etc. Schaeffler Group Industrial can look back on more than 30 years of experience in the wind power industry and has always maintained close cooperative relationships with the world s leading manufacturers in the sector.
