China mine blast kills 46

Parts of downtown Billings, Mont. are in shambles after a tornado touched down late Sunday afternoon. The twister ripped the roof off a sports arena, and tore through several businesses, including a bar, a casino, and an auto glass shop. There are no reports of injuries.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) Three wildfires are burning around Flagstaff, Ariz. Hundreds of homes have been evacuated north of the city because of a 3,000 acre fire. But evacuation orders have been lifted for a 300-acre fire in southeastern Flagstaff, which is 30 percent contained. A third fire has been reported in western Flagstaff. Authorities say "two active searches" are under way for some missing hikers.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) A Southern California woman remains hospitalized in fair condition and her 5-year-old son in serious condition after both were shot by the woman's stepfather Saturday at a fast food restaurant. The woman's husband and 6-year-old son were killed before the gunman killed himself.

BEIJING (AP) State media say at least 46 workers have been killed in an explosion at a mine in central China. According to the official Xinhua (shihn-wah) News Agency, at least 12 miners are still missing. Accidents and blasts killed more than 2,600 coal miners in China last year.

NEW YORK (AP) A New York City ferry that slammed into a pier in May and was damaged is back in service after undergoing repairs. The Andrew J. Barberi resumed carrying passengers between Staten Island and Manhattan on Sunday morning. Investigators suspect a defective part caused the crash that injured several people.
