The miracle figure 1 billion appeared in the box-office of the first month of 2010, including 862 million from Avatar in 28 days, and the rest from the Spy Next Door, Confucius, Bodyguards and Assassins and some other domestic films. The gross is not only 50 percent over the same period of last year, but also 300 million more than in December 2009. January 2010 has become the first month which grossed 1 billion, a tens digit, in the history of the film market in mainland China.
Another data is also worth noting. That is the number of screens of Avatar in the last week was 1413, which means that there were over 500 standard screens showing Avatar beside nearly 900 3D screens, and also that Avatar didn t give way to Confucius in standard screen showing.
Before the total exact figure is published, we estimate the total box-office in January 2010 will be over 1.1 billion. The film market of 2010 in mainland China will be more brisk than 2009.
