In 6 weeks time, the ZESPRI New Zealand Kiwifruit season kicks off again in Europe.
From that moment on, you will be able to supply your clients with the best tasting, consistent, highest quality ZESPRI kiwifruit with the reliability you've come to expect. The first vessel is scheduled to arrive end of week 18 in Zeebrugge.
Harvest of ZESPRI GOLD has started on the 14th of March and is now in full swing while harvest of ZESPRI GREEN and GREEN ORGANIC has started a bit later, end of last week.
Confidence is high from growers. One of the first orchardists to start picking was Gisborne grower Kaiaponi Farms, Scott Wilson:"We have had a fantastic growing season, the fruit is looking great with high taste and it's great to get picking underway,"he says."ZESPRI Kiwifruit has a long journey to take between the orchard and your warehouse.
It all begins in the kiwi orchards, where ZESPRI?Kiwifruit is cultivated according to the ZESPRI system that is unique and extremely positive for the environment.
Healthy kiwi plants produce healthy, delicious fruit. This is why kiwi-growers look after their plants with great care. The kiwi vines are tied carefully to their trellises and are trimmed regularly so that the light and air can get through to the fruit. This promotes quality, because more sun leads to a higher brix and a better taste, and reduces the chance of disease.
Before picking (mid March to June) kiwifruit are first tested for maturity and only when they pass a certain minimum criteria, it is carefully picked. This enhances the consistency of the fruit.
Once the kiwifruit has been harvested, it is transported to the packhouse to be graded, packed and stored ready for shipping and export. ZESPRI Kiwifruit exceeds the most stringent international environmental standards.
From May onwards, consumer will be able to cut and scoop these delicious ZESPRI vitamin bombs.
