Exports of footwear in Shishi city reported a growth of 42.6% to US$125.926 million during the first nine months. The reason for the sharp growth was the overseas source shift to Fujian province from Guangdong province where suffers labor cost hiking currently.
Although the footwear exports post a strong rebounding the several negative factors begin to show in the industry, the first is the losing of production cost advantage; the second is the industry to transform to countries or areas of lower labor costs; the third is weakness in creative and brand, the shoemakers in Shishi city belong to small and medium sized enterprises relying on OEM production and processing, most footwear made in Shishi are exported with processing trade. In addition the environmental restrictions require more investment on production and technology updating, the costs of production will be increased definitely.
