INTERNATIONAL CELEBRITIES SWING COMEPETITIVELY
Held between October 28th and 30th , The Mission Hills Star Trophy was a dynamic new event that brought together Hollywood's A-list elite, international entertainment stars and leading professional golfers at Asia's most memorable golf resort, Mission Hills, Haikou. The tournament is one of the first major world events that support a government-led initiative to make Hainan a leading international tourism destination in the coming years, a campaign in which golf will play a central role.
The superstar participants were part of a field that includes 20 celebrities, 20 professionals and 120 amateurs at the four-day Mission Hills Star Trophy. The whole competition was broadcast on TV in 149 countries and regions.
Golfing superstar Lorena Ochoa from Mexico won Asia's richest golfing prize, pocketing US 1.28 million for winning the inaugural Mission Hills Star Trophy. Hong Kong actor Eric Tsang won the pro-am competition with prize money of 100,000 dollars, which was all donated to the United Nations Children's Fund.
In this competition, citizens of Haikou could not only see many celebrities' elegant demeanor, including not only Greg Norman, Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie, the world's heavyweight golf players, but also very famous stars from the worlds of literature and art, as well as a sports line up from home and abroad such as Hugh Grant, Matthew Gonaughey, Catherine Zeta Jones, 1989 FIFA World Player Ruud Gullit, Li Ning, Chen Daoming, Yam Simon,Sammo Hung, Sun Nan as well as others.

Wei Liucheng, party secretary of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee, met some of the world's professional tournament guests at the Haikou Mission Hills course. He indicated that sport is an integral part of the construction of Hainan International Tourism Island. To enrich tourism resources, and to make Hainan better known, sports events should be held in close combination with tourism in Hainan. The Mission Hills Star Trophy is a totally new event that brings entertainment and professional golf together, which is very attractive to not only professional players, but also some famous politicians, businessmen and people from cultural circles. It helps effectively to enhance the visibility of the host city as well as the international fame of being an international tourism island, and to expand the influence of Hainan tourism.
