Between 18th C21st December the 2010 China Sports Tourism Expo took place in Haikou. Sponsored by the State Physical Culture Administration, the National Tourism Administration and the Hainan Provincial Government under the slogan of Charming International Tourism Island; Fashionable Sports Tourism Expo , the event used a lot of symbolic colors-red, blue, green and orange to represent sunshine, sports, experience and environmental protection.

The number of more than 500 enterprises exhibiting in an area of 350,000 square meters surpassed the scale of all previous Sports Expos. There were nine main sections-a Hainan International Tourism Island Theme Section, a Golf and International Brand Section, an Aquatic Sports Section, a Recreational Vehicle Camping Section, a Sports and Tourism Real Estate Section, a Leisure and Lifestyle Section, a Unique Sport Tourist Attractions Section, an International and Domestic Competitive Sports Section, a Sport Tourism Product and Service Section, a Sports and Entertainment Lottery Experience Section and a Sports Tourism Experience Section.

Commenting on the 2010 China Sports Tourism Development Forum , Mr. Tan Li, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Director of the Provincial Party Committee s Publicity Department and Vice-Governor of Hainan Province said that recreational sports projects will be built and that sports lottery and international event instant lottery projects will tentatively be carried out in Dragon Bay, Qionghai City- Hainan International Tourism Island s experimental zone.

Hainan will focus on building sports event brands for golf, cycling, beach sports, aquatic sports and intellectual sports. At the same time the island will build recreation, sports and lifestyle attractions for both domestic and international tourists. The sports lottery and international event instant lottery projects will be carried out in hierarchical phases in Hainan by learning from the experiences of lottery industries overseas.

After the forum, the China World Champion Avenue was built in Hainan. It runs along the new bund area under Haikou s Century Bridge for 1.5 kilometers, taking up an area of 6 Chinese acres (about 4000 square meters) and connects with coastal communities. More than 400 hand moulds of world champions have also been collected.
