SHANGHAI`S oldest vehicle tunnel beneath the Huangpu River, Dapu Road Tunnel, is expected to fully reopen to traffic on Wednesday after seven months of renovation.
It has been partially open for a month.
A second tube next to the existing tunnel will open at the same time, authorities said.
The two tubes, with a total of four lanes, are west of Lupu Bridge and are key arteries for the 2010 World Expo site.
The tunnel connects the Puxi and Pudong parts of the Expo site.
The expanded tunnel`s capacity will double and help alleviate traffic congestion in the busy Dapu Road area.
The tunnel has been closed for renovation as well as roadway expansion since last July, when signs of wear and tear appeared.
The tunnel first opened in 1971.
