Chinese airlines will raise fuel surcharges for domestic flights starting Feb22 due to the rise in base fuel prices, the Xinhua News Agency reported Monday.
Major airlines in the country, like Air China, are set to levy a fuel surcharge of 90 yuan (13.7 US dollars) per passenger for routes longer than 800 kilometers, and a 50 yuan surcharge for routes of 800 kilometers or less, the report said.
Airfares for infants have been exempted from the surcharge. Children, disabled servicemen and disabled policemen will pay surcharges of 30 yuan on routes under 800 kilometers and 50 yuan on longer ones.
Airlines issued the decision after the National Development and Reform Commission, the country's top economic planner, increased the gasoline, diesel fuel prices by 350 yuan per tonne Saturday.
Last October, Air China, China Eastern and other major domestic airlines raised fuel surcharges for routes shorter than 800 kilometers from 20 yuan to 40 yuan and longer than 800 kilometers from 40 yuan to 70 yuan per capita for adult passengers.
