Microsoft Corp. on Wednesday announced that it has appointed Chris Capossela as chief marketing officer, responsible for the software giant's marketing, advertising and corporate communications.
Capossela will also take the role of senior vice president of the company's Consumer Channels and Central Marketing Group, working with Microsoft's original equipment manufacturer (OEM), retail, mobile operator and distribution partners.
While announcing the appointment, Microsoft noted that Consumer Channels is a newly-formed group aimed at bringing together Microsoft's retail, mobile operator and distribution teams into one organization.
Capossela is replacing Mich Mathews, Microsoft's longtime head of global marketing who announced in March that she will retire this summer.
Capossela, a 20-year veteran of Microsoft, previously served as senior vice president in the company's office division and once worked as Bill Gates' speech assistant.
