China's statistics agency is to start releasing the average overall home prices for 70 major cities under a new survey method launched this year.
The National Bureau of Statistics says the new methods will improve reliability.
January's house prices will be the first to be affected under the new measures.
Overall average figures fail to reflect regional differences and separate price indices will help governments and the public better understand house price changes.
The new scheme will also improve basic data sources and basic category standards and add more fixed base price indices.
