The Hong Kong Monetary Authority Tuesday announced that the new series of 500-HK dollar banknotes would be put into circulation on Feb. 22.
The new 500-HK dollar banknotes will be available for exchange at the three note-issuing banks -- Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, and Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited.
The 1,000-HK dollar banknotes of the new series have been in circulation since Dec. 7, and the new notes for the other three denominations of 100-HK dollar, 50-HK dollar, and 20-HK dollar will launch between late 2011 and early 2012.
The new banknotes have incorporated advanced security features such as dynamic color-changing pattern, color-changing windowed metallic thread, standardized enhanced watermark, fluorescent see-through pattern and fluorescent serial number.
