The Chinese government is organizing the evacuation of Chinese nationals from Japan's northeast region following radiation leaks at a nuclear power plant.

The Chinese Embassy in Tokyo will send buses to evacuate Chinese from cities near Fukushima, where a nuclear plant was damaged by Friday's earthquake and tsunami. A statement disclosed Tuesday that they would be taken to airports to fly home to China, the China News Service reports.

The embassy said in a statement on its official website Tuesday that the elderly, children and women will be given priority in the evacuation, which is being arranged in Miyagi, Fukushima, Ibaraki and Iwata prefectures.

The website announced the locations for evacuees to gather and contact information.
