An expert team with China's national nuclear emergency coordination committee said Tuesday that the Chinese public won't be affected by the radioactive leakage following explosions at the Fukushima nuclear plant of Japan.
According to the experts, the radioactive substances won't pose threats to Chinese people after being diluted in the atmosphere and the oceans.
In a separate statement based on environmental monitoring results, the National Nuclear Safety Administration under China's Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) said the country remained unaffected from radioactive leakage as of 4:00 p.m. Tuesday.
The explosion, which happened at the troubled No. 2 reactor of the plant on Tuesday morning, was the third at the faltering plant since it was damaged in last Friday's massive earthquake and ensuing tsunami.
China's MEP said it will closely follow the situation and report any abnormal situations to the public as soon as possible.
On March 12, the MEP began nationwide radiation monitoring, with results released on its official website.
